One water bill arrives for the whole building and it has to be divided between the homes. Some use more than others, there are common areas, the odd leak and homes with no meter, and a hand-made split in a spreadsheet rarely adds up to the cent.

How Comunaris solves it

  • Works out the rate per m³ by dividing the bill amount by the billed m³, or by the measured m³ when the bill does not state them.
  • Each home pays its usage at that rate, and the total can never exceed the bill.
  • The difference —common areas, leaks, homes without a meter— is shared out by ownership percentage or in equal parts, as you choose for each bill.
  • Rounding hands out the leftover cents one by one, so every column adds up to exactly the bill total.
  • Warns you when the meters read more than was billed, or when a home has no previous reading and ends up at 0 m³.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to the water used in common areas?

It is part of the difference between the bill and what the homes’ meters read. That difference is shared between all homes by ownership percentage or in equal parts, as you decide for each bill.

What if a home has no meter?

Its usage is not measured, so it falls within the difference and is paid through the split of that difference. The readings screen shows how many homes have no meter so you can register one.

Why does the split match the bill exactly?

Amounts are rounded with the largest remainder method: the cents left over from rounding are assigned one by one, so the sum across all homes is the bill total.

Does the split produce bills for the neighbours?

No. Comunaris works out and shows what each home owes; issuing bills and tracking payments are not available yet.
